baking excellence <<

abim are members of Baking Excellence, which aims to promote training and sponsorship opportunities across the bakery industry. Every year, abim offers a scholarship or training opportunity to students of, and individuals employed within, the baking industry. In 2004, abim and The Worshipful Company of Bakers worked together on a joint awards programme, each offering a five day expenses paid trip to Lucerne to study Tortes and Patisserie at the world renowned Richemont Bakery School and to experience a Swiss working environment at Confiserie Bachmann.

The award attracted a significant number of entrants and the two successful applicants were selected by a combined panel of Worshipful Company and abim representatives from a shortlist of six.

Paul Mooney, one of the 2004 Baking Excellence Award winners.

Paul Mooney, has been employed at Chatwins since leaving school, progressing from trainee pastry cook to his present position. He is no stranger to competition success as Paul was winner of 'Young Baker of the Year' award at the 2003 Baking Industry Awards ceremony. Both candidates impressed the judges by their enthusiasm for the craft of baking and the desire to gain further skills which they could put into practice and pass on to others.
